Tiruvannamalai is a spiritual epicenter and a monthly highlight for hundreds of thousands of pilgrims. On the other hand, the small town of Tiruvannamalai is not able to provide special care and tuition to its differentially-abled children. The salaries in Tiruvannamalai are lower than in more developed areas.
These things coupled have lead many parents of autistic children in a tough situation. Special education and therapies for autistic individuals are not readily available in Tiruvannamalai. Hence, autistic children are forced to try to make it in normal classes or in groups of children with various backgrounds and diverse special needs. Taking the children to places where special schools for autism are located is often too expensive, logistically impossible or the current livelihoods of parents are restricting them effectively from moving around.
Although Divya Rasa was conceived as an idea to establish a residential commune for autistic children, parents, volunteers and workers, we came to acknowledged the dire need for the targeted special education for autistic individuals in Tiruvannamalai.
Hence, Divya Rasa started a day-care center for autistic children on June 1st 2016 in Tiruvannamalai. Currently we provide a holistic atmosphere for their needs and development. At the moment Divya Rasa is catering day-care services for 14 autistic individuals.
We are currently seeking support for covering the daily running costs of the center which consist mainly of the following:
Petrol for daily transportation of children Rs. 15000 / month
Rent of the day-care center facility Rs. 5000 / month
Salary of staff (4 hired local staff members) Rs. 24000 / month
We are grateful for all the support received and wish the donors would also contact us through the contact form. This way we can keep them updated on what is happening here in Divya Rasa.
If you feel like contributing something else than money, we are constantly spending on stationary items like blank and colored chart sheets, crayons, water and fabric paints, brushes, chalks; games (e.g. puzzles, ball games), and musical instruments.
