Neela Dakshayana

Neeli was born in the beginning of 2022 to Lalitha as her second calf after Arunachalam. Neeli has been a bright spark of light from the very beginning. After the initial days, she was very cosy with Agastya, Shyama and Damini, with whom she would sneak through the barbed wire fencing to the greener pastures all day. Since we are not milking the cows commercially, we didn't tie up the young ones, whose mothers were not to be milked in the mornings. This led to a funny habit of the above-said four sneaking out of the cowshed in the middle of the night, waking up the rest and worrying their mothers, to have a good night snack. Sometimes it was just grass, other times it was the banana saplings or tapioca field, which would need to satisfy the hunger of the youngsters.

These days (October 2022), when Neeli (STILL) goes on her nightly walks with Shyama, they can be heard due to the bell she is carrying. It is much thanks to Shyama, Agastya and Neeli, and their nightly walks, that our tapioca crops are likely to fail this year. During the rainy season, our  marvelous staff has been training our cows to go foraging in the nearby forest. For keeping a score of them all, we have put bells around their necks to make it easier to spot them.

Neeli's monthly rations cost around Rs. 2,500/-. You can help her and us at:

Lalitha

Lalitha is one of the "Original Bunch" of cows, who came to this land. She, as well as Radha and Lakshmi, came as 1-year old youngsters and grew up here to their adulthood. She was never a show-maker or anything. Peaceful and calm, she would never run away from you, nor towards you. Food, of course, will make her move but her calm and composed nature is wonderful to watch.

Lalitha's first calf, Arunachalam, had a special time of growing up, due to his mother's small problems. For some reason, her udders were not letting the milk come out in any decent speed. Hence, she was never separated from her calf to provide maximum time for suckling. We can't tell if this is the reason, but up to date, Arunachalam is the calmest bull in the lot, even matching that of the calves and cows. If you think it, He had the maximum time of uninterrupted breast-feeding through his first year and half.

Lalitha remains one of the silent favorites of ours. Her monthly rations cost around Rs. 3,000/-. You can help her and us at:
